Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It is inevitable that we all know someone close to us that has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Our hope is that your special someone is still beating this horrible disease.  I, myself, have lost a couple of amazing women in my life to breast cancer. During the month of October, take the time to remember the ones that have fought the fight and continue fighting to find a cure.

Here are a few stats from this year. It is calculated that in American women, there will be approximately  226,800 new cases of invasive breast cancer, 63,300 new cases of in situ breast cancer and 39,500 deaths. In American men, there will be approximately 2,100 new cases and 400 deaths.

General risk factors:
• Being female
• Getting older
• Family history

Breast cancer rates in women under 40 is low, but the highest rates are in women over the age of 70. Approximately 95% of the women diagnosed are over the age of 40. Family history of breast cancer also increases your risk. Living a healthy lifestyle could quite possibly reduce your risk or recurrence of breast cancer. Please get screened, a simple mammography or MRI can find early stages.
